Gonggong, Chinese mythology for the object (225088) 2007 OR10

On February 5, 2020, the scattered disc object (225088) 2007 OR10 was oficially named (225088) Gonggong.

"Gonggong is a Chinese water god with red hair and a serpent-like tail. He is known for creating chaos, causing flooding, and tilting the Earth; he is often depicted with the head of a human and the body of a snake. Gonggong is often attended by his minister, Xiangliu, a nine-headed poisonous snake monster for whom the satellite is named." (MPC 121135)

Gong Gong traveled along the waterways, giving names to the rivers and conducting hydrological studies. During the time of the mythological emperor Shun, Gong Gong tamed the overflows that threatened to flood the kingdom.

On one occasion, Gong Gong fought against Zhuan Xu for the throne of the empire. His battle was so fierce that the entire universe lost its balance; reason why all the rivers flow to the east.

Xiang Liu was a minister of Gong Gong, who also participated in the fight between the line of the Red Emperor and that of the Yellow Emperor.

 
According to some ancient texts, Gong Gong was one of the Three Sovereigns, wich, together with the Five Emperors, constituted the mythological rulers of China before the first Xia dynasty. Traditionally they were credited with the foundation of Chinese civilization and the invention of social, cultural and economic institutions.

A Moon of (225088) 2007 OR10 [Gonggong], of about 300 km, was discovered in September of 2010 and was announced in October of 2016.

Initially, (225088) 2007 OR10 [Gonggong] was nicknamed 'Snow White', because it was thought to be very bright white, but then it was discovered that it was actually bright red. This type of bifurcation during the understanding of something, is typical of the quality of the number "10" applied to the resonance with Neptune, like in the movie "Unstoppable" (2010).

Its discoverers (Megan Schwamb, Mike Brown and David Rabinowitz) have reserved the right to choose an official name until November 2019, when it will become 10 years since it received its permanent number.

(136108) Haumea is a scattered disc object discovered in March of 2003. There are prediscovery images back to May-April of 2002, February of 1999, April of 1998, May of 1996, February of 1995, March of 1994, April of 1991, January of 1991 and March of 1955. It reached the perihelion in December of 1848. It was oficially named in September of 2008.

The orbit is between Neptune-Kuiper belt and the beginning of the scattered disc. It has a perihelion of 35.10 AU and an aphelion of 51.51 AU. The semimajor axis is at 43.30 AU. It has an orbital period of 285 years. It has an inclination of  28.1º. It has a diameter of about 1450 km.

In November of 2005, two moon of (136108) Haumea were announced: Hi’iaka, with a diameter of about 320 km, discovered in January of 2005; and Namaka, with a diameter of about 160 km, discovered in June of 2005. In the year 1999, there was an occultation between Haumea and one of its moons (similar to that of Pluto and Charon in the '80s).

(136108) Haumea is the central object in a cloud of Kuiper belt objects that are the pieces of it after a big collision (1995 SM55, 1996 TO66, 2002 TX300, 2003 OP32, 2005 RR43...). This astronomical quality gived her mythological name.

Due to the impact that suffered (136108) Haumea during the collision, its rotating period is only 3.9 hours. The rotation is so fast, that its spherical shape ended up being distorted in an ellipsoid of dimensions 1960 km × 1518 km × 996 km.

 
Hawaiian mythology

Haumea was the goddess of childbirth and fertility. She took many different forms and has experienced many different rebirths. Haumea was the mother of many other deities in Hawaiian mythology who are pieces pulled off of her body.

The "fertility" concept, when applied to (136108) Haumea, means that some paths are easier to walk that others. It depends on how the collective or group forces are acting, mythologically represented by the deities that are part of herself.

(148780) Altjira is a classical Kuiper belt binary object discovered in October of 2001 and named in August of 2008. It has a perihelion of 41.3 AU and an aphelion of 46.9 AU.  It has a diameter of about 340 km. It has an inclination of 5.2º.

A moon of (148780) Altjira was discovered in March of 2007, with a diameter of about 250 km.


Australian Aboriginal mythology

Altjira is the sky god in Australian Aboriginal mythology. He was the central god of the Dream time. Altjira created the Earth and then retired to the sky. He is depicted as having an emu's feet.

There are prediscovery images back to September of 2003, December-August of 2001, December of 2000, November of 1997, October and August of 1995, December of 1994, November of 1993, November of 1990, September of 1989, September of 1982 and Semptember of 1954. It has an inclination of 43.9º.

(136199) Eris has a moon, with a diameter of about 400 km, discovered in 2005. It is named Dysnomia.

As always that things are not going in the right direction, when Eris sees that Sinbad is going to stole the big treasure and retire to Fiji (a tropical place with beach girls), and on the other hand, Marina is going to marry Proteus and take responsibilities in Syracuse, she gets so excited and quickly cames into play creating chaos and discord, of course pretending to correct the situation. 

When (136199) Eris is activated by the Age Point or by transit, the main theme that points, is to find who we really are and who we could be, because that is the necessary condition for having a deep motivation in life and experience a strong flow in what we are doing. The movie "In Good Company" (2005), shows how important is to self-rate correctly in the business world.

This self-knowledge can be used to set our life on the right path if we took the wrong road before (4:9 resonance with Pluto), like in the books "The Ugly Duckling" (1844) or "The Jungle Book" (1884, 1907). (134340) Pluto is a Kuiper belt object discovered in February of 1930. It has a perihelion of 29.7 AU and an aphelion of 49.3 AU. It has a diameter of about 2300 km. There are prediscovery images back to January of 1927, December of 1925, January of 1921, December of 1919, April and March of 1915, and November and January of 1914. It was observed in the years 1965, 1985, 1988 and 1990. It has an inclination of 17.2º.

The moon Charon was discovered in June of 1978 (1200 km). Two smaller moons, Nix (60 km) and Hydra (75 km), were both discovered in 2005. Some astronomer call it "dwarf double planet" (Pluto-Charon). Eris (2600 km) is a bit larger than Pluto (2300 km), but from an astrological point of view, this binary system is very important, because Pluto is always conjunct Charon (1200 km).


(134340) Pluto aspire to perfection like in the movies "King Kong" (1933, 2005) and "Superman" (comic 1932; movie 1978).
