(346889) Rhiphonos is a centaur discovered in August of 2009. It has a perihelion of 6.01 AU and an aphelion of 15.68 AU (Echeclus family). The semimajor axis is at 10.84 AU. It has an orbital period of 35 years and 266 days. It reached the perihelion in March of 2010. It has an inclination of 19.8º.


Greek mythology

The name Rhiphonos (Riphonus) means 'throwing'. He was one of the commanders of the centaurs who joined Dionysus in his campaign against India.

(668643) 2012 DR30 is an inner Oort cloud object discovered in 2009 (=2009 FW54) and rediscovered in February of 2012. It has a perihelion of 14.5 AU and an aphelion of 2205 AU. It has a diameter of about 165 km. There are prediscovery images back to February of 2010, April, March and January of 2009, March and February of 2008 and April of 2000. 

The distance of 15 AU is related to an antagonistic encounter or collision. In the centaur Amycus, this quality is combined with Uranus to be experienced as an 'anomaly'; while in the centaur Echeclus and Rhiphonos, is combined with Jupiter to be experience as 'serendipity'.
