(121725) Aphidas, searching for security and physical protection in moments of high risk

(121725) Aphidas is a centaur discovered in December of 1999. It reached the perihelion in October of 1973. It was offiacially named in October of 2017.

The orbit is between Saturn and Neptune, with an orbital piercing from Neptune toward Uranus. It has a perihelion of 9.71 AU and an aphelion of 26.27 AU. The semimajor axis is at 17.99 AU. It has an orbital period of 76 years and 124 days. It has an inclination of 6.7º. It has a diameter of about 84 km.

Greek mythology

During the wedding of Pirithous and Hippodamia, the Centaurs got drunk and tried to assault and rape the invited women. Aphidas was sleeping on a bear-skin rug with a cup in his unconscious hand.

During the battle between the Lapitas and the Centaurs that followed the wedding, the Lapith Phorbas killed Aphidas with a thrown spear while he slept.
